PDF files

Hi Sydonia, I suppose you're Edmund Gooch, right? Thank you for the new edition you've just contributed! Unfortunately I am not being able to open any of your PDF files ([1], [2]), my AcrobatReader says the files are corrupt. maybe it's just a problem of PDF version. Could you please inform which program you use to generate the PDFs? And would you mind if I upload replacement PDF files using an older PDF version so as to make them accessible to more users? Thanks! —Carlos Email.gif 20:37, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Carlos, The files were generated using Adobe Acrobat. The info box for the files when I open them in Acrobat Reader (version 9.0.0) shows the file creator as Acrobat Distiller 9.0.0 (Windows) and the PDF version as 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). If you can generate and post more easily-accessible PDFs from the Sibelius files, by all means do. Thanks, Cydonia 21:05, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Just to say I can open both those files without problem. --Bobnotts talk 22:25, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Rob, are you sure you didn't open the versions already uploaded by me? If you have Acrobat 6 or above you'd be able to open both versions anyway, it's just that I (and many people I know) still use Acrobat 5 (or even 4!).
Hi Edmund, I've already uploaded new PDFs using version 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x), please check if they are acceptable for you: File:Clark-Since.pdf - File:Trem-O all.pdf (if not, just inform me and I'll revert to your versions)
Acrobat Distiller should (?) have an option to choose the PDF version, please check it next time you generate a PDF. Thanks! —Carlos Email.gif 22:40, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes thanks, the new versions of the PDFs look alright to me. I'll save in an earlier PDF format in future. Regards, Cydonia 22:57, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Meter categories

Hi. Thanks for creating 866. 866 ... it's nice to see that someone has figured out the right way to do it!! If you do have any questions, please feel free to ask me. – Chucktalk Giffen 23:35, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Hyfrydol goof

I'm sorry I mistakenly put Hyfrydol down on the Angels from the realms of glory page. I had previously posted Hyfrydol elsewhere and slipped up because of the lateness of the hour when I was working. Of course it's Regent Square (as in my edition). Thanks for catching the goof! – Chucktalk Giffen 05:47, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks - it was late when I changed it too, and I overlooked that you had added an edition the day before (so I wasn't sure if the Hyfrydol reference related to the Christopher R. Baker edition, which didn't seem to be accessible). Best wishes, Cydonia 16:13, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Laments category to focus on secular works?

  • Posted by: Vaarky 21:55, 22 January 2011 (CST)
 Help

Thanks for your efforts to start applying the Laments category tag. There was some initial discussion that we wanted to use the Laments category only for secular works, since the volume of religious laments is so large. However, that discussion took place off the beaten path where most people are unlikely to have seen it, and I did not properly add an indication regarding that to the Laments page--my apologies.

I've now added a note to the Laments page pointing to the initial discussion, and inviting further discussion on the discussion page for the Laments category. For example, should we have separate categories for secular and for sacred laments? I have left the Laments tags that you applied to the additional pieces pending further discussion. Please let us know your thoughts.

Congratulations

Hi, Edmund. Congratulations for your excellent work and welcome as an admin here! - Claude 02:04, 11 October 2011 (CDT)

Thanks!

Hi Edmund, just a thank you note for helping us remove the daily spam. (in addition to all else you've been doing! :) —Carlos Email.gif 01:20, 15 June 2012 (CDT)

Jakobey Márton

Hi Edmund, I'm supposing that w:hu:Márton is the family name. If it's the other way around, we'll have to rename his pages to conform to CPDL's standards (name-surname). Regards, —Carlos (talk) 15:19, 18 September 2012 (CDT)

(Family name) (given name) is the usual Hungarian naming convention, and I believe in this instance Márton is the given name. Do we have a general standard of using (given name) (family name) in all instances (for example, in other languages which use the family name first)? This appears to be what we do for other Hungarian composers at present (such as Kodály Zoltán). If so, should have something like the WP template Eastern name order to explain our practice, or can this be suitably dealt with in the 'aliases' line at the top of the article? Cydonia (talk) 16:29, 18 September 2012 (CDT)
You're probably right, I just checked on his vocal group's website and the names of the components are give as "Forgó Eszter – szoprán, Nagy Melinda – alt, Jakobey Márton – tenor, Zám Balázs – basszus". Eszter and Melinda are certainly given names. What confused me was that his user page was originally in the reverse order[3] which I supposed was in the Hungarian form. CPDL has been applying this naming convention for everyone, including Japanese composers (not sure for Chinese, though), and the reversed order is sometimes included in the 'aliases' line, as you said. However, a template to inform of this practice by CPDL might be a good idea! —Carlos (talk) 17:47, 18 September 2012 (CDT)

CatTxt

Hi Edmund, when creating Composer, Lyricist and Editor categories, you may want to use the shorter and more convenient {{CatTxt}}. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 03:40, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
