Biography

Leanne Veitch is an Australian-born composer, now resident in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Although she had sung in choirs since her mid 20s, it wasn't until her mid 30s that she first attempted to compose.

Her first work, The Wheel of the Year (2004), an 18 minute song cycle, shortly followed, and has since been performed in over a dozen countries. Her works are now being performed regularly across the globe from South Africa to the United Kingdom to the United States and Mexico.

Primarily a choral composer, Leanne is currently moving into popular songwriting, instrumental, and orchestral composition. Variations on her works have been developed and performed by musicians in Israel, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Argentina.

Leanne's goal as a composer is to write accessible music that is memorable, fun to sing, and original. She specialises in shorter, a cappella works, and writes music that choirs will return to again and again, as staple works in their repertoires. Many of her performances are repeats by choirs who choose to perform her work over and over again, and feedback has been very positive, from audiences and performers alike.

Leanne's interests include writing, board games, bodybuilding, rowing, and managing her small lifestyle farm in Wingatui, New Zealand. When not composing, she spends most of her time wrangling children, sheep and chickens, not necessarily in that order.
