Possible Categories
- Choral music publications – Books and other publications primarily containing original choral music, or compilations of choral music. Includes part-books, tune-books. Not including hymn books unless they contain original material. Subcategories: Renaissance publications, American tunebooks, Shape-note music
- Reference publications – Books and other publications about choral music, describing or characterizing choral music forms, modes, history, uses, etc. Includes dictionaries. Usually containing music only as examples, not whole compositions or whole movements.
- Educational publications – Books and other publications designed to be used in educational settings.
- Music lyrics publications – Books and other publications primarily containing original lyrics: hymns, poetry, church service words, librettos, etc.
- Scholarly music publications – Monographic books and other publications, usually covering one composer or genre.

- Page Name. Short Title as described below.
- Citation. Author/Compiler/Editor is the surname of the first author, compiler, or editor. Year a four or five character text field. If not known, first year in range (followed by f) or approximate year (followed by c).
- Short Title. The first two to four words of the (original) title, excluding particles and prepositions, but indicating differences if published in the same year. Examples might include First Book Madrigals, Union Harmony Vol. 1.
- Authors-Compilers-Editors. Full names (linked as appropriate) of authors, compilers, and editors. Describe variants in later editions and printings.
- Title. The full title of the (original) publication. Describe variants in later editions and printings.
- Year Published. The year of first publication; could be a range of possible years, or an approximate year.
- Citation. Full bibliographic citation of the (original) publication in some standard format. Some possibilities:
- Other Editions. Describe later editions, printings, and reprints.
- Description. Describe contents of publication, including characteristics of music within.
- References. Publications authenticating or describing this one, cited using the same standard as Citation above.
- External Links.
