Talk:This is the record of John (Peter Dyson)

Oh! I thought "This is the record of John" was reserved for the account concerning John Baptist and the priests and Levites, concluding with John's exhortation to "Prepare ye the way of the Lord." Gibbons wrote the music that every countertenor knows! The gospeller was a different John, of course; by the time the gospel was written John Baptist had long been murdered.

Confusing! All the more so because this appears close to the commemoration of the birth of John Baptist - tomorrow 24th June. But I suppose composers can set the texts they wish - and call their compositions by whatever title they wish.
