Talk:Se la face ay pale (Guillaume Dufay)

I essentially replaced the text and translation of Se la face ay pale (Guillaume Dufay) that were posted up to 10/10/2018.

Original text: I took out the division in the middle of each stanza and added the missing stanza 2. I deleted punctuation except for apostrophes and changed some spellings to make the text conform to the version in MS Oxford Canonici 213 fol. 53v-54 (https://www.diamm.ac.uk/sources/716/#/), which editors seem to regard as the most reliable source. I cannot find the word "cuij (cuii)" (stanza 3) in references; I wonder if it is a scribal error. It is spelled "cuis" in the other facsimiles I have seen: the Laborde Chansonnier (https://www.loc.gov/resource/ihas.200152631.0/?sp=66) and the chansonnier Wolfenbüttel Codex Guelf. 287 Extrav. (http://diglib.hab.de/mss/287-extrav/start.htm?image=00096). I included the alternate word in parentheses.

English translation: Stanza 2 is mine. I also made corrections and revisions elsewhere, based on my own study of other translations and the Anglo-Norman Dictionary (http://www.anglo-norman.net/).

If there is existing talk about Se la face ay pale, Please point me to it and let me know if I should move this entry there. Please let me know of any code I should have included.

No early source I know of has meaningful punctuation. If adding punctuation is preferred, I will be glad to do so -- or let anyone else do it who can.

I corrected several errors in my translation of 11 October 2018. I don't call it a minor edit because in places the meaning changes substantially. Hbeckwith (talk) 03:01, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
