Attribution: Grove Online (accessed 20 Aug 2012), in the Josquin entry, lists Ave Christe under "Doubtful and misattributed works" and says it's a "Protestant adaptation of text of Ave caro Christi cara" but doesn't suggest another composer. In the Bauldeweyn entry under D&m they say "Ave caro Christi cara [= Ave Christe immolate], 4vv, Josquin." In the text they say Ave caro has recently been attributed to Josquin. So, as far as Grove knows, it was written by Josquin and somebody changed the words to make a Protestant version.
