Quid Chrístum captíve crépas
dux pérfide cúrans?
Quae infído vólvit córde
supérba cáro?
Chrístus enim vívit
justíssimus árbiter órbis,
quem nísi sprevísses sídere
líber éras.

Asserit ad déxteram pátris
pía júra suórum
detúrbans túmidos omnipoténte mánu.
Hic véstrum cóhibet rábiem
faucésque rebélles
sed píus in média mórte
períre néquit.

Why would you strike captive Christ,
O treacherous leader, in your care?
What in a faithless heart is
proud flesh considering?
For Christ lives,
the most just judge of the world;
until you had cursed him by the stars,
you were free.

He defends, at the right hand of the father,
the righteous laws of his own people,
thrusting down the proud with almighty hand.
He curbs your fury
and rebellious tongues,
but, devout in the midst of death,
he cannot perish.
