2  Mein Zeit und Stund ist, wann Gott will;

kein Kunst noch Gunst, kein stolzer Muth;
fürn Tod kein Kraut gewachsen ist;
mein frommer Christ,
alles, was lebet, sterblich ist.

6  Heut sind wir frisch, gesund und stark
und liegen morgen tot im Sarg;
heut blühen wir wie Rosen rot,
bald krank und tot;
ist allenthalben Müh und Not.

7  Man trägt eins nach dem andern hin,
wohl aus den Augen, aus dem Sinn;
die Welt vergisset unser bald,
Sei jung, oder alt
auch unsrer Ehren mannigfalt.

8  Ach Herr, lehr uns bedenken wohl,
daß wir sind sterblich allzumal,
auch wir allhier kein Bleibens han,
müssn all davon,

hinfahrn in Fried;

dennoch will ich verzagen nicht;

15  Mein lieber frommer, gtreuer Gott,
all mein Gebein bewahren thut,
da wird nicht eins vom Leibe mein,
sei gross oder klein,
umkommen noch verloren sein.

16  Mein lieben Gott von Angesicht
werd ich anschaun, dran zweifl ich nicht,
in ewigr Freud und Seligkeit[Herrlichkeit],
die mir bereit;
ihm sei Lob, Preis in Ewigkeit.

17  O Jesu Christe, Gottes Sohn,
der du für uns hast gnug gethan
ach schleuss mich in die Wunden dein,
du bist allein
der einig Trost und Helfer mein.

18  Amen, mein lieber, frommer Gott,
bescheer uns alln ein selign Tod,
hilf, dass wir mögen allzugleich
bald in dein Reich

English.png English translation

1  I give all my worries to God,
Let him do as he pleases with me.
Should I live here any longer,
without struggling against him
I will do as he wills.

2  My hour will be chosen by God;
I do not set limits to his will.
He numbers the hairs on my head;
Great and small,
no one dies without his willing it.

3  We live in a vale of tears,
Fear, distress, and tribulations is everywhere;
Our stay here is short
And full of hardships,
and thinking about it causes trouble.

4  What is man, a clod of earth,
he comes naked from the womb,
brings nothing into the world,
neither property, nor gold,
and takes nothing with him when he dies.

5  There is no help in wealth, money nor goods,
Nor in art, nor patronage, nor proud courage;
There is no herb that heals death;
my pious Christian,
everything that lives is mortal.

6  Today we are fresh, healthy and strong
and may lie dead in the coffin tomorrow;
Today we bloom like red roses red,
soon to be sick and dead;
everywhere there is trouble and hardship.

7  One after another, people are taken away
out of sight, out of mind;
the world will soon forget us,
Be weyoung, or old,
And will forget our many honours.

8  Oh Lord, teach us to remember
All the time that we are mortal,
None of us has an abiding place here,
We all have to die
Be we learned, rich, young, old or beautiful.

9  Faithful God, the cause of this is sin
Which brings bitter death,
Death takes and consumes all humankind,
Wherever he finds them,
Regardless who they are or what they are.

10  Most of my days here are not good,
my daily diet is trouble and complaint.
If my God wills, I wish to go peacefully;
Dying is my gain and does not harm me.

11  And if my sins already challenge me,
yet I will not despair;
I know that my faithful God
for me in death
gave his dearest Son.

12  The same, my Lord Jesus Christ,
Has died for all my sins
and risen to my benefit,
the risk of hell
cleared with his precious blood.

13  To live and die all the time,
from him bitter death does not cut me off,
I live or die, that's how I am
he is alone
my consolation and my help.

14  This is my consolation at all times
in all my pain and sadness.
I know that on the last day
without any complaint
I will rise from my grave.

15  My dear holy, faithful God,
preserve all my bones,
so that there will not any part of my body,
be it large or small,
that will be lost.

16  My dear God, face to face
I do not doubt that I shall see you,
in the eternal joy and glory,
prepared for me;
Praise be to him, praise forever.

17  O Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
you have done well for us
oh, take me into your wounds,
you are alone
my consolation and helper.

18  Amen, my dear, holy God,
Give us a blessed death,
Help us, that we may all
come into your kingdom
and stay forever.

19  I live and die for my God,
he should not separate me from death.
I live or die, that is how I am
he is alone
in life and in death my helper.
