Biography
' Frank Henry Simms was born in Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England, into a family of musicians well-known in the Midlands. He trained under Henry Simms of Birmingham and G. B. Arnold at Winchester Cathedral. He first was appointed organist and choirmaster at All Saints’ Church, Ryde, Isle of Wight, and was conductor of the Ryde Philharmonic Society. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain. He left England about 1890 to the USA where he became organist and choirmaster of St. Paul’s Church, New Orleans, Louisiana. He was appointed Director of Music at Newcomb College of Tulane University and was organist of the Temple Sinai, New Orleans. He gave organ recitals throughout the U.S. and Canada, including a recital at the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. He died in New Orleans.
