English text
Fraile man despise the treasures of this life,
Earth's wealth is want, joy sorrow, peace and strife.
Dame Fortune's bitter sweetes doe not affect,
Her happiest state's unworthy thy respect.
For like as Jonah's gourd, even in a night
Springs up and dies againe this world's delight.
