General Information

Title: Discubuit Jesus
Composer: Anonymous

Number of voices: 3vv   Voicing: STT
Genre: SacredUnknown

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

First published:

Description: A Responsorium transcribed from the Trent manuscript tr88. The time signatures and the notes' values are as in the manuscript. The Tenor’s time signature is puzzling, the real meaning is that the “cantus firmus” is in “proportio dupla” vs. the other two voices. The notes' values within the "ligaturæ" are as follows: the left upstemmed notes are semibreves - the unstemmed notes are breves - the right downstemmed note are longæ. The "musica ficta" suggestions are in the MIDI and MusicXML files.

Latin.png Latin text

Discubuit Jesus et discipuli eius cum eo et ait:
desiderio desideravi hoc pascha
manducare vobiscum antequam patiar.
et accepto pane gratias agens
et dedit illis dicens:
hoc est corpus meum.
Fecit Asuerus rex grande convivium
cunctis principibus et pueris suis,
ut ostenderet divitias regni sui.

(Lukas 22,14ff)

(Ester 1,3f)
Der König Artaxerxes machte ein großes Festmahl
für alle seine Fürsten und Diener,
damit er die Schätze seines Königtums zeige.
