dir Tau in’s Herz gegossen,
und Morgens dann, man sieht dir’s an,
das Knösplein ist erschlossen.

  English.png English translation

Thou gentle girl as fair as pearl,
no care thy heart oppresses,
but glow of noon and rose of June
are hid in its recesses.

A dewy show’r on tree and flow’r
hath in the night descended,
now ev’ry spray with bloom is gay
and odours sweet are blended.

Sweet heart, I ween love’s arrows keen
have pierc’d thy heart and hold it;
thine eyes of blue bear token true
thy bud of love’s unfolded.

English.png English translation
(alternate)

Thy mild heart, sweet image,
has not yet lighted up.
Inside, a dreamy glow lies dormant,
which will soon manifest itself.

The night has brought dew
to all buds in the woods,
and in the morning, a sea of blossom
spreads its fragrance across the slope.

Tender love has, through the night,
poured dew into the heart
and in the morning, behold,
the little bud has flourished.
