Latin text
Ave maris stella, Dei mater alma,
atque semper virgo, felix coeli porta.
Sumens illud ave, funda nos in pace, mutans Evae nomen.
Vitam praesta puram, iter para tutum,
ut videntes Jesum semper collaetemur.
Sit laus Deo Patri summo Christo decus,
Spiritui Sancto, tribus honor unus. Amen.
Salutis humanae Sator, Jesu, voluptas cordium,
orbis redempti conditor et casta lux amantium.
Tu dux ad astra et semita, sis meta nostris cordibus,
sis lacrymarum gaudium, sis dulce refrigerium. Amen.
Vexilla regis prodeunt, fulget crucis mysterium,
qua vita mortem pertulit, et morte vitam proluit.
Quae vulnerata lanceae mucrone diro criminum
ut nos lavaret sordibus, manavit unda et sanguine.
O crux, ave, spes unica, paschale quae fers gaudium,
piis adauge gratiam, reisque dele crimina.
Te fons salutis Trinitas collaudet omnis spiritus,
quibus crucis victoriam largiris adde praemium.
Amen.
Jesu redemptor omnium, quem lucis ante originem,
parem paternae gloriae, Pater supremus edidit.
Tu lumen, et splendor Patris, Tu spes perennis omnium,
intende, quas fundunt preces Tui per orbem servuli.
Jesu Tibi sit gloria, qui natus es de virgine,
cum Patre et almo Spiritu in sempiterna saecula.
Amen.
English translation
Hail, star of the sea,
Nurturing Mother of God,
And ever Virgin
Happy gate of Heaven.
Receiving that "Ave"
From the mouth of Gabriel,
Establish us in peace,
Transforming the name of "Eva".
Loosen the chains of the guilty,
Send forth light to the blind,
Dispel our evil,
Entreat all good things.
Show yourself to be a Mother:
Through you may He receive prayer
Who, being born for us,
Undertook to be your own.
O singular Virgin,
Meek above all others,
Make us set free from sins,
Meek and chaste.
Bestow a pure life,
Prepare a safe way;
That seeing Jesus,
We may ever rejoice.
Praise be to God the Father,
Glory to the Most High Christ,
Honour to the Holy Spirit,
To the Three equally. Amen.
Hail, Jesu, Redeemer of Man,
The joy of hearts;
Creator of the world's redemption
And source of loving light.
Our guide, our way to heavenly rest,
You are the aim of our hearts,
You are the joy of the sorrowful,
You are our sweet refuge. Amen.
The royal banners fly,
Shining forth the mystery of the Cross:
Upon it Life suffered death,
And death procured life.
Who, wounded with a dreadful spear,
Did pour out water and blood
to cleanse us from sin.
Hail, O Cross, our singular hope,
Bringing joy, grace to the pious,
and atonement to every sinner.
Blessed Trinity, fount of salvation,
May every soul sing your praises;
to those you grant the victory of the cross,
rewards supply. Amen.
Jesus, Redeemer of all,
Created before light began,
Equal to the Father in glory,
Sprang from the sovereign Father.
You are the Father's Light and Splendor,
The endless Hope of all;
Hear the prayers for the world, which your servants pay.
Jesu, born of the Virgin, to you be
Eternal praise and glory,
With the Father and the Holy Ghost. Amen.
